Frog Rock
There are no trees next to the house so this gray tree frog climbed one of my patio chairs instead.
Rainy Jay
Even the birds are sick and tired of all the rain we’ve had this spring.
A Moth’s Tale
Last fall I found a polyphemus moth flopping around on my deck. I placed it in a terrarium overnight and took some photos before releasing it the next day. As I was putting away the terrarium, I noticed a number of tiny eggs scattered on the bottom.
I added some twigs and leaves and a few weeks later eight or ten caterpillars were crawling about, gorging on the greenery. They ate and ate (and ate) for a month or so before weaving their cocoons and tucking in for a long winter’s transformation. This spring I deposited the surviving five cocoons in some vegetation in the garden. When I checked in last week the cocoons were abandoned — the metamorphosis complete. One of the new moths was hanging on to a stem, waiting for its wings to strengthen so it could fly away.

Here’s Looking at You, Kid
This rose-breasted grosbeak appears to be giving me the stink eye.
Rock Garden
I’m not exactly sure what’s growing on this rock, but it’s growing really fast.
